Place Mats
Help your kids make their own Thanksgiving placemats. They'll be proud to show off their handywork at the table! A
large piece of construction paper serves as the foundation; the following are easy ideas on how to decorate a festive placemat.
Cut slits approximately 1" apart across the length of the construction paper
Cut 1" strips of construction paper in several contrasting colors
Weave the strips of paper in and out of the slits; use glue to secure the ends.
|
Fall Leaf
Cut a piece of construction paper into the shape of a leaf; place it in a shallow cardboard box. Drizzle several colors
of paint onto the 'leaf'. Place a marble or golf ball in the box and tip it back and forth, tracking paint across the leaf.
Glue your creation in the center of your placemat.
|
Hand Print Turkey
Paint the palm of your child's hand brown. Paint each finger a different color. Press their hand down in the center of a
piece of construction paper; move their fingers back and forth creating 'tail feathers'. Cut around your design and glue it
in the center of your placemat
|
Hands and Feet Turkey
Trace your child's feet on a brown piece of construction paper, and their hands on
several pieces of colored construction paper, as shown.
Glue the feet pieces together to form the turkey's 'body' and use the hand pieces to form the tail feathers. Use a marker to draw
a face and feet on your turkey; glue your creation in the center of your placemat.
